Maldives Airport Expansion (2016-2017)
Gulf Cobla LLC has been awarded the reclamation and sheetpiling work for the expansion of the Ibrahim Nasir international Airport on Hulhule island in the Maldives in June 2016.
Gulf Cobla Tennssor Maldives will reclaim over 5 million cubic metres of sand for the new runway construction, a cargo terminal, a seaplane terminal and install over 6 km of sheetpiles during the project.
The sand will be taken from the inner lagoon where the company also dredged more than 2 million cubic metres of sand for the previous expansion during 2012.
Gulf Cobla LLC, which was appointed by main contractor Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG), did initially deploy its cutter suction dredger (CSD) Deira Bay and followed up by its CSD Khaleej Bay to increase the progress in order to meet the completion date.
